Jean Paul Gaultier x Diet Coke = The Serial Designer

   His last collection for A/W 2012 may haven't been his best so far, but he managed to fascinate us with his Barbie videos. Jean Paul Gaultier is the new creative director of Diet Coke and he is starring with Barbie in the campaign videos. 

   The videos are really great and the clothes he makes for the Barbies (Irene, Bernadette and Eleanor) are amazing, especially the dress in the last video with the cone-bra. So Gaultier!

 

And I suppose more videos are about to come...

Tribute to Amy Winehouse

  We all know the love that Jean-Paul Gaultier has for music, as except the cd single he had released back in the late 1980's he is related with many icons of the music industry and has designed the costumes for many singers' performances and tours. Unfortunately, as he stated, Amy Winehouse wasn't one of them, but it didn't stop him of creating a whole collection inspired of her style.
  Multiple Amys appeared on the catwalk, as it concerns the hair, the make-up and the attitude, but in a Gaultier way: he mixed her '50s-'80s style with his own unique theatrical one and the result was stunning. Leather pencil skirts and bustier tops coexisted with more eccentric pieces like a corset backed parka and a green taffeta trench. However, some of the bodies, appeared at last under the veils, brought Lady Gaga in my mind, rather than Amy.
  Despite the colourful combinations, that Amy wasn't choosing so often, and the romantic style dresses, you could feel her aura in the air. And the men-quartet performing during the show doo-wop versions her songs helped a lot in this...

A Swan Lake

    When I first watched Aronofsky's multi-awarded "Black Swan" last year, I didn't expect theinfluence that it had a few months later, not in cinema but in fashion, as Jean Paul Gaultier's

haute couture show for A/W 2011-2012 seemed to be inspired of it and of Tchaikovsky's "The Swan Lake" in general.

  Ballet accessories like  chic midi length tutu skirts and tutu skirted dresses and also high heeled pointe shoes and playful elements like the plissé-finish jackets made their appearance along with a lot of feathers -from hair accessories to skirts- implying the film's strong influence. But ballet is not only for women; and Gaultier pointed that out by resuggesting men skirts continuing his idea of fluidity of the sexes. Of course, all these were characterised by Gaultier's unique theatrical mood.
  However, there was something in all this that made me feel like I had traveled back in the '80s watching  one of l'enfant terrible's first individual shows. Maybe it was the reintroduction of some of his '80s innovative elements like the man skirts and the cone bra (which is probably due to his currently three-decade-plus career retrospective running at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts), maybe the wide use of leather, especially when it comes to long coats or it was just the whole "irreverent" atmosphere...
